As the days get shorter and the weather turns colder here, thoughts of escaping the winter to a warm, sunny locale start to cross my mind. Walking along beautiful white sand beaches, traipsing through majestic national parks, exploring the local food scene – ah…vacation… Then, I hear a small wimper, which gradually turns into a louder cry and *poof* – daydreaming time is O-V-E-R. As a new mom, the likelihood of going on vacation at this point is pretty remote. I have heard that some babies are good travelers, but how do you know until you try? What if my baby is not a good traveler? I’m afraid of being one of those parents that I used to feel sorry for on the plane, wailing baby and luggage in tow and just looking frazzled. We’ll just have to wait and see and take baby on smaller jaunts first to get our feet wet. Until then, the next best thing is pulling out my travel photo books and telling my little guy bedtime stories of all the wonderful places to see around the world. Here’s a couple snapshots of Photo Book Baby’s nursery with “surprise” – a travel theme!
I chose a travel theme for our nursery and enlisted my brother to draw line sketches of various skylines and locales that have meaning to my husband and me. We got it printed with a company that does custom vinyl decals. We think it turned out so well and love it!
Above is another shot of our travel decal which crosses over two walls of the nursery. We’re not done with the decor yet – the more neutral walls need a pop of color with some artwork waiting to be hung!
Here’s a link to the page on my site which is all about travel photo books where you’ll find links to all my blog posts on the topic. I updated it recently and wanted to share it with all of you!
Anyone planning any fun trips and/or any vacation photo books?
This has to be one of the cutest and most original nurseries I’ve ever seen. As a realtor and avid ohdeedoh.com blog reader, I’ve seen plenty! Makes me want another kid so I can copy you and impress everyone I know. Mine are 2 and 4 and surprisingly great at travel. We started with small road trips and high expectations and it’s worked! Good luck. 🙂
Thanks Gina! The nursery was the room I was most excited about putting together. I am really lucky to have a very creative brother who is my partner in crime on lots of these home design projects. We were actually wallpapering the master bedroom only a week before I went into labor – ha ha… There are a few finishing touches I have to make to the room, mostly artwork and framing his photos and handprints and footprints etc. Maybe I’ll do a post on it even though it’s not photo book related, although the nursery before and after will likely be part of my pregnancy photo book where I’ll write about how we prepared for our little one! It’s good to hear that your kiddies are good at travel – gives me some hope. Our little guy is pretty chill so far, so that’s got me hopeful! 🙂
We are doing a travel theme for our nursery as well, yours looks amazing!
Thanks! A travel theme is so much fun isn’t it and not as typical – of course I love the idea! 🙂
LOVE this idea! I am planning on doing a travel theme as well. How can I get this?
Hi Kate, this was designed by my brother and custom ordered. I could ask him if he’d be interested in designing one for you. Note though that custom printing of a decal will cost more than a stock decal you would just buy, so let me know if you’re still interested. I am a custom kinda girl so I knew we’d have to design our own. Feel free to email me using the contact form and I can get you details after we discuss further what specs you’re looking for. I guess the price could vary depending on what size and how many buildings you wanted included. The nice thing is that you could potentially pick the exact buildings you want so it could be 100% personalized.
Would it be possible to order the border just as you designed it, from the vinyl company?
Hi Melissa,
This design was created by my brother so it was a custom decal. I think I’ve seem some similar borders online for sale – they are not as detailed but still very nice! Just try googling skyline decal or something like that… Best!
Hello!
I love the idea of a travel themed nursery! Can you tell me which decal website/company you used? I am having trouble finding a place that will do custom decals. Also, can you provide a ballpark cost for what they charged for making a decal like the one you used? I want to make sure this is in my budget before I get too excited about it. Thanks!
Hi Kate,
As mentioned in the comment just above, my brother did the design and arranged for the printing – I don’t recall the name of the company. And cost will depend on the size of the decal. This one is probably about 15 to 18 feet long? It wraps along two walls. If you search for “custom decal” or “wall decal” a lot of companies will pop up and you can get a custom quote. I think you can get it to fit into any budget, you may just have to adjust the size a bit. Best of luck and congrats on your pending arrival!
Any chance you’d be willing to reproduce and sell this decal? I have been looking for similar “cityscapes” decals, and can’t find one I like as much as this one. Please let me know!
Hi Megan, I’d have to check with my brother and get back to you – it may be a week or two before I can get back to you on it though. 🙂
Hello! I would also be interested in purchasing this wall decal. Can you let me know if you’d be willing to do that and how much you’d charge? Please feel free to email me directly. Thanks!
Hi Liz, This was a custom one-off that my brother designed. He’s not making them for sale at this time but if that changes in future I will repost again and let you know. I think if you search online for skyline decals or something like that, I bet you’ll find some similar ones that may work for you. 🙂
