I mentioned on my Facebook fan page recently that I am a bit of a pack rat and I like to collect things and I heard from many of you that we share that same “obsession”. Glad to hear I’m not alone! I’m sure being a pack rat is a major reason why I am so drawn to preserving memories in photo books.
My spring cleaning continues and I have been packing up a lot of old traditional photo albums into boxes. Doing so has made me appreciate digital photo books so much more as those old albums are very, very bulky and very, very heavy. I can’t fit more than 3 or 4 albums in one of those standard file boxes. Do I have to take these albums with me everywhere I move for the rest of my life? You know what I mean right? So now it’s got me thinking of what I should do with them.
- Should I scan all the photos and then shred the originals (so sacrilegious for a pack rat to even think!)?
- Should I take all the photos out of albums, scan them and store the originals in acid free boxes? (at least they would not be as heavy if I eliminate the albums…)
Now old family photos and my childhood photos I have no intention of shredding or ever throwing away – those are very precious to me. The million dollar question on my mind is: What to do about all those photos I have with ex-boyfriends? Should I go through and shred all those photos with exes? I have always been a prolific photo taker so I have tons of photos with my exes and I laugh when I think about this issue, but I’m a happily married woman now nearing our two-year anniversary and seriously, I am curious: What have you done with photos of your exes? Have you burned them like I see in the movies? Does your current significant other care that you still have them? Should I make a photo book of them? LOL!
I’d love to hear your feedback!
