Photo Book Girl’s Sixth Birthday “Photo Books for a Year” Mixbook GIVEAWAY (Ended)

Six years ago, I was a newly wed bride researching all the online options for making my own wedding photo album. I was definitely a hands-on DIY bride – I made my own wedding website, programs, favors, table numbers and even made my own centerpieces!

It was crazy, but I loved every minute of it. So, when it came down to my wedding album, it was keeping within the DIY theme to make my own of course, and that’s how Photo Book Girl was born. All of my research and digging into the photo book options online had found a home onto my site and as they say, the rest is history.

Since starting this site, I had a baby (a/k/a Photo Book Baby). Then the baby grew into a toddler and the toddler grew even more and became Photo Book Boy. Then along came bouncing baby boy number two just last summer and now we’re a family of four! My wedding albums (yes, I’ve made lots more than one!) eventually gave way to photo books of my little babes. Fast forward hundreds of photo books later and I’m still the DIY queen. I still enjoy preserving memories in my photo books and I love to share information and tips with my readers so they can become DIY experts too!

What I like:

  • Put anything just about anywhere. You can design across the center spread which gives you a lot more design options;
  • The software is very user friendly and intuitive. You don’t have to click in and out of different editing modes to customize the page unlike some other companies’ software;
  • The clip art is “non-cheesy” and well-designed. I can always find something unique and fun to add to my layouts and if I can’t, I can easily load my own;
  • The software is online. Once I load my photos, I can work on it from my laptop, desktop etc. I’m not chained to my desk and I can work on it anywhere I have an internet connection;
  • Their pre-made themes are well designed and I’ve often picked one as a starting point for my books. I can always delete, move, resize anything in the design. It’s the best of both worlds – I don’t have to start a book from scratch and I have the ultimate flexibility to change it up;
  • Fun options like drop shadows, borders, transparency adjustments are all available;
  • Collaboration is a built-in feature. You can invite friends to upload photos and make edits to a joint project. I did a cookbook project with my friends and we had a great time doing it!
  • The flexibility in design is available in Mixbook’s cards and calendars as well. I like being able to take one of Mixbook’s fully-designed cards and then change anything to fit my needs.
  • Books come in square, landscape and portrait orientation. Portrait books are not as common but are one of my favorites to make.

  4. What I would do with the prize?
    I have this goal this year to spend more time on working on preserving memories for my family. I clearly have about 20,000 photos to choose from with stories of moments from our lives. My 4 year old daughter loves reliving all those moments or seeing what ” mommy and daddy” did before she was born with our worldly travels. I think photobooks are amazing and the “new” modern way to preserve memories!

    • What would I do if I win? I would like to work on preserving memories for my wedding. I will make into album and keep for children to see when they got married. Hope I can win!

    How much of a dream come true to do a photo book a month! I have kept my photobooks to just one a year and waited until the BEST possible time to make one to save me money. I would most likely do a combination of books for me and books as gifts to my family! How precious that would be.

  9. REQUIRED ENTRY: If I’m the lucky winner, I would definitely spend the prize towards one or two big books! I still haven’t made a photobook of my half year trip to Australia and New Zealand a few years back, but I have every desire to do so! I would keep the book(s) to myself and my boyfriend. Hopefully, we can show them to our future kids one day, hehe.

  10. 5th entry- I always have used MyPublisher to do my books due to the timing and they had a better coupon at the time than MixBook. I like what I see online for Mixbook and I have always been thoroughly satisfied with the quality of my books from MyPublisher. The layflat pages are wonderful and even if you don’t get full glossy pages they are still wonderful to look at.

    How would I use the prize?
    In 2006, I decided to create photo books yearly instead of printing photos and putting them in photo albums. The old photo albums are heavy and take up way too much space. I have been good about making special photo books for trips or anniversaries but not yearly albums. I am now ten years behind! I have been great about organizing all my photos for easy access and I love the creative aspect involved in making a photo book. With 4 boys slowly starting to leave the nest, I want to get these memories preserved so we can enjoy them for years to come. They especially have special meaning to my son with special needs. Flipping through photo books filled with family and friends is his favorite past time!

  54. I have a lot of projects waiting to be done. I have at least 3 family vacation waiting to be immortalized on awesome photobook each. On our last trip to Hawaii, we done a 12 x 17.5 80 pages premium book from photobook canada. We expect to do the same with MixBook if we win for our other trips.

  231. If I were to win I swear it would be like Christmas every month! I have so many books to print. I am a digital scrapbooker so I have pages that I would like to get into books and of course I have photos that I would like printed in an album as well. One project in particular that I am working on are 4 books for my kids and God son. It is a book of all of their relatives with each page having a picture and the relative’s name. We live far from some of our family so I thought this would be a great way for them to recognize everyone and to remember the faces of their grandparents that have passed.

  291. Happy Birthday PBG! I’ve been a member of your mailing list and a loyal fan for over one year. I am so grateful for the discounts you offer on your sight. As a result, I’ve been able to do two photo books for the family I nanny for – basically a year in review for their Christmas presents two years in a row. If I were to win this give away, I would be more likely to do one big project, whether it was a wedding album or canvas prints, I’m not yet sure. While the idea of doing a book for every month sounds all well and good, I am also VERY aware of the time required to do just one book. This is why I would be more apt to do one big project, focusing all my time and energy into making it excellent Also, I’m pretty sure it would be a project just for ME!   295. If I won a year of free photobooks I would be one very happy Grandma. I have eight grandchildren and could make a book for each of them as well as a family cookbook for each family complete with photos, recipes and anecdotes like the time my then six year showed up in the kitchen carrying a squirrel and saying he shot dinner. My recipe for squirrel chili goes like this:

    Step One: send child to help father in the garage
    Step Two: bury squirrel deep in the trashcan where child will not see it
    Step Three: remove ground chuck from freezer, bury wrappings deep in the trash with squirrel …. You get the idea! The photo would be of my proud young hunter holding his great-grandfather’s single shot .22 rifle in one hand and the squirrel in the other. Ah, the joys of country life back in the day. (Young hunter is now 25!)

  481. MyPublisher review: MyPublisher has nice books. I don’t like their software interface that much. Not a lot of options, difficult to use. I will say that they do have wonderful looking books when you get glossy pages. Very nice. I go back to them for some books because of the good deals they have.

I hadn’t realized how many of our photos are stored away on our computers and/or phones and how we rarely get to sit down together to share these photos and the memories associated with them.   631. I recently ordered a 6×6 Chatbook with my instagram posts. It was easy to use software and the printing of the pages is good quality and I like the thickness of the actual pages. The one drawback that I didn’t like is when I stand it up with my other books the front cover warped (bowed) out. Maybe if I had put it between two books instead of at the end it would have held it in better but for the price it was overall impressive.
