14 days until Christmas! How are those holiday projects going?
I’m personally in the middle of working on my annual end of year tradition – making calendars for everyone in my family! If you’re a follower of my blog you might recall I have made these calendars every year for the past 7 years and now I’m going on my 8th year! I have seven households to make these calendars for, including grandparents, my brother, my sister-in-law, my aunts and my cousins. I’ve always made them with Mixbook because I love the level of customization I can achieve with Mixbook’s user-friendly software.
To help you out with your holiday projects I want to pass along an exclusive deal for Photo Book Girl readers including a great deal on Mixbook calendars! Plus you can’t miss entering our LAST GIVEAWAY of the year!

ENTER MY HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY!
Our LAST GIVEAWAY of the year is here! TWO lucky winners will receive either a $100.00 credit or $50.00 credit to spend on anything at Mixbook – calendars, cards, canvas prints, metal prints, acrylic prints and of course my fave – photo books! More details on how to enter that below.
Mixbook is one of my favorite companies. They have one of the most user friendly and full-featured design programs out there.
What I like:
- Put anything just about anywhere. You can design across the center spread which gives you a lot more design options. Mixbook calendars in particular are the most customizable I’ve come across;
- The software is very user friendly and intuitive. You don’t have to click in and out of different editing modes to customize the page unlike some other companies’ software;
- The clip art is well-designed. I can always find something unique and fun to add to my layouts and if I can’t, I can easily load my own. This is a great feature for digital scrappers who have plenty of their own stickers and embellishments. Digital scrapbookers will also like that Mixbook offers a 12″ x 12″ photo book with several paper choices including Semi-Gloss, Pearl Finish, Premium Matte Lay Flat and Premium Lustre Lay Flat;
- The software is online. Once I load my photos, I can work on it from my laptop, desktop etc. I’m not chained to my desk and I can work on it anywhere I have an internet connection;
- Their pre-made themes are well designed and I’ve often picked one as a starting point for my books and calendars. I can always delete, move, resize anything in the design. It’s the best of both worlds – I don’t have to start a project from scratch and I have the ultimate flexibility to change it up;
- Fun options like drop shadows, borders, transparency adjustments are all available;
- Collaboration is a built-in feature. You can invite friends to upload photos and make edits to a joint project. I did a cookbook project with my friends and we had a great time doing it! I’ve been hoping to do another group project soon!
- The flexibility in design is available in Mixbook’s cards and calendars as well. I like being able to take one of Mixbook’s fully-designed cards and then change anything to fit my needs. Check out my in-depth Mixbook card review here!
- Paper options available for cards include cotton texture and luxe board, as well as foil cards.
- Books come in square, landscape and portrait orientation. Portrait books are not as common but are one of my favorites to make. Below are some of the photo books I made this year. You can click here or on the photo to check out my detailed review of Mixbook photo books;
- A new Premium Lustre Lay Flat photo book is available. It features a thick paper with a subtle sheen with page counts up to 99 pages.
If you want to check out all of my Mixbook projects throughout the years, see my Mixbook Reviews page!

I would love to buy some last minute gold foil cards. I have a ton of books I have to make, so much to do so little time. There matte books and layouts look amazing.
I love the matte albums – I want to make some with my children’s bday images from the last year – I liked your fb page –
I liked Mixbook on FB – I would love to get some calendars for family members that still love to use paper calendars, mixbook has great templates.
I prefer the 8.5 x 11 portrait because I shoot a lot of full frame images opposed to instagrams style square imagery. I wouldn’t want to have to crop so many of those images.
I would make a photobook for myself.

I would create my annual photo book from the photos I take every week on Sunday of my son. He was born on Sunday and I’ve taken one of him every Sunday since. I do an annual book called Sundays with Parker, but I’m super late this year. I’d do it for me and each of the grandparents.

Photo books. A year in review for my nieces and nephews. They have just discovered what a “photo album” is and that notnall pictures are on a phone. They think it’s the coolest thing to see themselves in a book. Love these little minds and their discoveries to what was so common for us.
Required Entry: I would make a photobbok and give the 10×10 a try. Ive stayed with the 8.5×11 landscape size because I find I can fit my images better, whether they are portrait or landscape. It’d be either for my mom or myself…
Optional, Subscription Entry: I am already a subscriber and receive your newsletters! Name is Benita
I have followed your webpage since the beginning, before the kids! I create a photobook for each family vacation we take and include all the details my husband expects me to remember (ie: the campsite number, how much that museum cost, what was that great meal we had). Years later, its been at least 10 years now of making those books, I can pull a book down off the shelf and confirm all those details as well as enjoy pics of my kids growing up and the two of us growing older.

Favorite photobook format is 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 14 landscape. I haven’t warmed up to portrait layout — I think it’s ingrained in my mind that coffee table type books are always landscape!

I’d like to get cracking on our family’s 2017 yearbook. The 14″x17″ is ideal for my project.

My favorite photo format is 8”x8” because the free photobook offers are usually for that size. My favorite pages are the ones where one photo is spread over two pages. I find that 8.5”x11” landscape cuts off too much at the top or bottom of the photos for such layouts. I need to check out the 8.5”x11” format.
