Okay folks, can you believe it’s almost Halloween? You know what happens immediately after Halloween right (and sometimes even before)? The stores perform a quick change over, pushing all the Halloween stuff to the clearance aisle and start hauling out everything tinsel, red and green. In Photobookland, Halloween also signals for me to get my creative holiday projects underway, such as year in review photo books, custom photo gifts for the grandparents, calendars and of course holiday cards! I get e-mails all the time asking about when the sales are going to start for the holiday season and that time is now! 50% off cards and even free cards are common deals I’ve been seeing as of late. You know we track all the best photo card deals here!
Who Has the Best Prices on Custom Cards?
We also take deal tracking a step further by giving you a quick and easy way to see which companies have the best pricing on cards. Keep in mind the prices in the chart are pre-sale prices. Once you subtract the savings, these cards often end up cheaper than the Hallmark greetings you find off the shelf! Check out my price comparison chart before you order! (I did all the leg work for you!)
In addition to putting together my price comparison charts and tracking card deals (as well as other photo deals), I love checking out all the latest cards – new designs, new features, new paper options.
New 2016 Holiday Designs
One new design I’ve seen this year is this card at top right – a pop out photo card from Shutterfly. Isn’t this a cool idea? I typically display all the holiday cards I receive as I love having all the photos of friends and family around – it really personalizes our holiday decor. With a pop out photo, you can stick that on the fridge and enjoy it even after the holidays. It’s only 10 cents more than Shutterfly’s regular cards.
Another card style I’ve always been partial to is the year in review card, so I’m always on the lookout for new designs with that layout. It allows you to share brief snippets of the highlights of your family’s year. It’s nice to hear a bit of news from friends – especially if you haven’t had the chance to catch up in a while. This particular card from Mixbook is one of my faves. I like the homey, rustic background and how the white text pops off the card. What’s nice about Mixbook is that they offer the most customizable cards out there. You can change any element on the card that you want, resizing photo boxes and text, change backgrounds, add stickers etc. It can be hard to make your sentiments and photos fit within the constraints of a fixed template if you’re a queen of customization like me but with Mixbook’s flexible software, you can change the design to your heart’s content!
The next two cards are by AdoramaPix. This is a unique decorative edge that I haven’t seen offered elsewhere, two square corners and two rounded corners. I always gravitate toward the unusual or unique. What’s great about AdoramaPix’s holiday card offerings are the options to choose from decorative edges like this at no additional charge. Four different paper choices are also available and they’re all included in the base price. If you buy more than one card the price drops dramatically.
I also like the vintage look of this card from Mixbook. It features simple, clean photo boxes all ready for your best pics. I think I might have been drawn to this card because of the adorable pup on the front. Don’t forget your furry friends!
Hmmm… looks like I’m on this vintage trend this year. I seem to be gravitating to the more nostalgic, classic look. Here’s a letterpress card from TinyPrints. This is a unique offering from the company. The design is imprinted into the card, giving it a 3D feel. Below are the options for the back side of the card. As you can see you have no shortage of options – even though you’re getting the benefit of a designer template, you have the ability to make a personalized and custom looking card. Letterpress cards come a premium price, but the look is certainly timeless.
Something for Everyone
I also love to see options for folks who may not celebrate Christmas but want to send seasons greetings for holidays such as Diwali (October 30) and Hanukkah (December 24 – January 1). I personally have enjoyed finding cards for Chinese New Year (February 8, 2017), for something unique to give to family. There are a number of Diwali cards on Photobook America’s site and on Mixbook’s site.
Hanukkah cards can be found at AdoramaPix and TinyPrints among other companies.
And of course there are always plenty of Happy New Year card designs!
