Photo Book News and Deals 2011 – Picaboo, MyPublisher, AdoramaPix, Photoworks, Shutterfly

Okay folks, I have some good news and I have some bad news.

Several companies have added new book sizes and paper choices and products, but on the flip side, some intro pricing on options has shifted to their normal pricing, some book prices are going up and one company is even closing down its site!  (This just means more work to clean up my Photo Book Wizard database which I try my best to keep up to date!)

But take heart, there are always sales and free photo book offers and new photo book companies popping up every day!

Picaboo just announced some new products and updated software.

  • Picaboo is now offering square books in sizes 8×8 and 12×12.  Previously they only sold landscape photo books. See all Picaboo photo book sizes and types here.
  • New products also include prints and collage photos
  • New update to Picaboo X software – they’ve added an alignment toolsomething we’ve been asking for at PBG!

New Deal:

Get $10 off PLUS FREE Shipping on ALL 8.5 x 11 books (including the lay flat Madison, flush mounts etc.!)

Coupon Code: SPRINGTEN

Deal Expires: 3/21/11

Don’t forget about the FREE Picaboo photo book deal! (Ends 3/22)

MyPublisher has some new products and a new paper option!

1) They’ve added a hardcover version of the 7.75 x 5.75 photo book size.

  • Price starts at $19.99
  • 20 to 100 pages
  • 115 lb. high gloss archival paper
  • Full custom cover
  • Can add lay flat for $15.00

2) Also a new mini softcover book – 3.5 x 2.75 called the My Mini

  • $2.49 each
  • Fixed page count at 20 pages
  • 115 lb. high gloss archival

3) MyPublisher also has a new paper option – Super Gloss

I haven’t seen what this looks like yet – but according to MyPublisher, this high gloss photographic-like paper is going to give you a sharper, clearer, richer, deeper, more vibrant image.  The pages will also be thicker than normal and scratch and spill resistant.  Wow, that’s a big claim they are making! Anyone try it yet?  I believe it’s only been out for a few days.

(One photo book reader contacted me recently about spilling a Coke on her beloved MyPublisher book, luckily it only got on the edges and it appears that she salvaged it.  I wonder if these “spill resistant” pages can stand up to a can of Coke! LOL!  Anyone want to test that out?)

The intro pricing is as follows:

  • Classic Book – $10.00 upgrade
  • Deluxe Book – $20.00 upgrade

4) The intro pricing on the lay flat pages alas is no more…

I updated the database to reflect the new pricing:

  • Classic Book lay flat upgrade – went from $25.00 to $35.00
  • Deluxe Book lay flat upgrade – went from $50.00 to $75.00

5) We have some DEALS!

Deal Expires: 3/23/11

Also, don’t forget about the MyPublisher BOGO Deal (Ends 3/28)

Unfortunately, AdoramaPix announced they are going to raise their prices, which haven’t been posted yet – but to ease the pain, they are running a 35% off deal on all photo books right now.

Deal Expires: 3/21/11

Photoworks announced they are closing their site, but you can get a $30 credit on Shutterfly if you transfer your account by 5/2/11.

Hi! Thanks for all the info. Just wanted to share with you that the prices on adorama have been updated. The 35% off you see is off new prices. I only know this because I’ve been following them closely for two months, and as soon as the sale went live, I ordered 9 photo Books through them. I LOVE them!

Thanks – I was wondering that. As soon as the sale is over, I’ll update the database.

Sadly, Picaboo also raised the price on Madison!I know because I had one made and ready to order and I checked on it a couple of days ago and the price had gone up from 99 to 129!! I could kick myself for not ordering it earlier!

I suggest contacting Picaboo to see if they can do anything for you. You never know. Plus, I hope you saw this deal in time: http://www.photobookgirl.com/blog/photo-book-news-and-deals-2011-picaboo-mypublisher-adoramapix-photoworks-shutterfly/ They had a deal that just expired yesterday for $10 off and free shipping. It wouldn’t have made up for the full difference perhaps, but it would help. Also – a BIG ALSO – have you bought the $35 for $100 Picaboo Groupon? It’s not on today for the U.S., but I’m pretty sure we’ll see it again. If it’s running you’ll find it on my Groupon page. So, there’s still ways to save on your Madison 🙂

Thanks for the info. The groupon is still probably the best way to go and perhaps I can refer a couple of friends and get Picabucks for credit. I guess the $99 was only an introductory price, but still I wish they had sent out some sort of announcement. I really want the Madison after you showed us your beautiful honeymoon photobook!

Yes, I agree – perhaps they could have made a preliminary announcement and told folks that they have a week to get their orders in under the old price. The Groupon is the cheapest deal I’ve seen for the premium books and yes – take advantage of the referrals. 🙂

Just wondering if you have heard any news about the MyPublisher super glossy paper. Do you think that this paper would work well for a baby book showing his newborn photos? I already bought a book from the photographer made by whcc which has cardstock as the pages. Just wondering if super glossy would work well? Gift for mother’s day to the grandmothers.

I think the super glossy paper would be nice, but I don’t have any firsthand experience since the paper is relatively new. You could potentially do a test book first – you can use the $20 free gift card that MyPublisher is offering to try it out first. The $20 will cover the cost of the upgrade. This is a link to the $20 free gift card here. You could order 1 book first to see if you like it before ordering more than one for the grandmothers if you have time. I will be trying it out, but I can’t say when at this point…
